It isn't because she likes the pain; the pain is an uncomfortable byproduct of what she's striving for. No, the only thing she wants from this experience was the thin red lines that lace the soft, pale inside of her wrists, the shiver-worthy marks that make her feel beautiful. The stripes show so wonderfully and brightly against her white skin, and they make her feel marked and wanted, even if it's just for herself. No one else needs to know. No one else wants to know. So no one else will know, as she paints her pretty lines.
